History
A city was created in May 22, 1873 by A.R. Alcott, the Texas & Pacific Railway engineer, who purchased land along the Texas & Pacific line outside of Dallas. A railroad, which ran from either Dallas to Shreveport, began stopping at a newly-created town shortly thenceforth & a city began to develop about the railroad. A city was officially incorporated in December 3, 1887.

Mesquit prospered in the late 19th to the early 20th century and became a growing farming community, growing cotton, hay, corn and sugar and using a railroad line to ship the raw goods. A town remained preponderantly farming until fallowing World War II, when a boom withinside suburbia likewise root in Mesquit when newly subdivisions were created. A people exploded, growing from either 1,696 in the 1950 census to 27,526 in 1960 and 55,131 in 1970.
